Hunting and gathering may be fun for some, but clearly it’s not for everyone.
Some people want to plant seeds and care for their plants, to mutually coexist with a diversity of species, and to create comfortable human habitats that can move with them as they dynamically discover and spontaneously organize into small bands/households and tribes/neighborhoods of humans capable of voluntary interaction.
If one is convinced that perhaps this whole land monopoly thing is a problem best solved by making more habitable/arable land that is capable of gamboling/seceding along with oneself and if one is convinced of the ethical necessity of not violating the do-no-harm/non-aggression-principle, then it behooves one to consider the self-sovereignty of the intelligent cetaceans that already make the oceans their home.
Seasteading ventures must have sustainable ways to deal with waste, rather than simply dumping it tragicomically onto the heads of our fellow sovereign beings, the dolphins who frolic and gambol beneath the waves. To undo some of the damage already wrought by some unnamed individuals of our species, a diplomatically conscious seasteader might consider attempting to integrate some form of plastic-eating salt-water mushroom into the ecosystems on the underside of their seasteads in order to help clean up that little floating continent of plastic waste out in the Pacific. Not offering legal advice on how to deal with dolphins in their courts of restitution, just saying it might be a nice act of good will on behalf of our species, some individual members of which happen to be really nice folks.
In any case, permaculture aimed at attaining some degree of food self-sufficiency is key to breaking free of the big farm/jail of modern land-based statist civilization, and can and should incorporate cash crops, or specialty/exotic/illicit species of flora/fauna for trade on that beautiful voluntary network of free exchange that is the agora.
Maybe.
I managed to puncture/shred a tire less than a mile down the road, and so the Shire Alliance Tour is postponed indefinitely. I’ll post an update when I have more information. As of right now, the plan is still to go down to Wall St. this weekend to do outreach and interview some of the participants.
Here’s a rough sketch of what the Shire Alliance Tour schedule looks like so far:
Depart Free Grafton ~ October 5
Arrive Plymouth
Depart Plymouth
(Potentially taking a break from the (solar-powered part of the) tour to go down to occupy Wall Street with my allies, do outreach for the Shire, and plant some seeds. Depending on that and other factors, the rest of the schedule is tentatively dated.)
Arrive Free Concord
Depart Free Concord ~ October 10 or 11
Arrive Manch
Depart Manch ~ October 13 or 14
(Potential stop(s) between Manch and Free Keene include Home Tree Domes, Milford, Nashua, Jaffrey, etc. Depending on how that works out, the rest of the schedule is very tentatively dated.)
Arrive Free Keene
Depart Free Keene ~ October 16, 17, or 18
(Camping along the way. (Tent)atively.)
Arrive in undisclosed location in the western Shire just in time for the apocalypse ~ October 21
Depart
Arrive Bardo Farm
Depart Bardo Farm
Arrive back home in Free Grafton
I’ve acquired a video camera with which to document this tour, the beautiful seasonal changes in scenery along the way, and in order to keep accountable any government agents who attempt to interact with me. I hope this will be only the first of many solar-powered tours of this bio-region.
Central to the idea of agorism is the concept of the underground economy, also known as the counter-economy, or black and gray markets. Agorists recognize that coercive top-down state intervention in the market disrupts productive human interaction and results in harmful distortions and long-term inefficiencies, regardless of any perceived immediate benefits.
In permaculture, the underground economy is literally the underground networks of plant roots, fungi, bacteria, micro-organisms, nutrients, minerals, etc. that naturally develops in undisturbed soil. Permaculturists recognize that the practice of tilling breaks up these natural networks and disrupts nutrient transfer, causing immediate damage to the soil food web and reducing the health and productivity of plants grown in such soil.
Both the practice of tilling the soil and the practice of state intervention in the economy are widely regarded as necessary in their respective fields, but upon closer consideration of them in comparison with permaculturist and agorist alternatives respectively, both are unnecessary and harmful. Despite perceived short-term gains, both disrupt the creation of long-term economic and ecological health.
The alternative to participating in a politico-economic system that requires you to fund aggression against your neighbors is to gradually move more and more of your productive activity into the counter-economy until your interaction with and support of the state is non-existent. In a parallel sense, the alternative to the heavy-handed approach of breaking up the soil and forcefully intervening in the underground economy is to allow the diverse community of organisms that live and work in the soil to interact with your seedlings for mutual benefit. The eco-agorist synthesis of this conceptual confluence is that by supporting your local underground economy, practically prophetically will both your plants’ productivity and your personal profits positively proliferate.

Starting this Fall, dates undecided as of yet, I will be embarking on a Shire Alliance Tour on my solar trike. I will be visiting fellow self-sovereign individuals and engaging in formal and informal diplomacy with them. Along the way, I won’t be paying any taxes and will only be doing business with trusted allies and counter-economists. Here’s a tentative route so far:
Embark from Free Grafton
Plymouth
Free Concord
Hampton Beach
Nashua
Manch Vegas
Home Tree Domes
Free Keene
Bardo Farm
And back to Free Grafton
During the trip, I’ll be spreading the messages of peace, liberty, and justice to whomever will listen.
This post will be updated as the route and schedule becomes more defined and all dates and locations are subject to change.
The Earth is my home, and polluting the air I breathe or the water I drink, harming the ecosystem of which I am a part, is aggression against me in a very real sense.
Holding individuals responsible for their actions is what individualism entails. Respecting the lives, the liberty, the property of others as they respect your life, your liberty, and your property. Treating the earth and our fellow lifeforms as more than just a means to an end, but as ends in themselves, is a rejection of parasitism and consistent with promoting a free and peaceful society.
Cultivating a healthy and biologically diverse community of plants and animals in and around one’s home is an effective way of attaining independence from the centralized, unsustainable, coercive state. Becoming energy independent, growing more of your own food, and reducing your reliance on state-monopoly-entwined resources are means of working toward a more deeply radical, regenerative, resilient resistance to systematic aggression.
Towards the goal of conserving and protecting the earth and the lifeforms that inhabit it, the more widely distributed and decentralized the ownership of property, the more individuals who have a stake in protecting the local ecosystem of which they are a part. A network of small land-owners who to some extent or another depend on the land for their food, shelter, and/or livelihoods, has a very strong incentive to protect their environment from harm. Whereas a centralized corporation or government, insulated from market pressure through state coercion, is able to privatize profits while socializing losses, externalizing the costs of their unsustainable actions.

Eco-agorism is a philosophy which aims to integrate revolutionary market anarchism with a deep respect for the earth and the lifeforms that inhabit it. Just as agorism is both theory and strategy, eco-agorism is also a means of attaining the desired ends of free market environmentalism and green libertarianism.
Understanding that humans are sustained by, and exist as part of, life on earth, eco-agorists focus on practicing environmentally sustainable counter-economics, cultivating resilient local communities, and growing the sphere of voluntary human action while preserving and helping to regenerate a healthy and biologically diverse ecosystem.
Eco-agorists see the agora, (the sum total of voluntary human action,) as a microcosm of the biosphere, (the sum total of ecosystems on earth,) and recognize both as dynamic and self-adjusting systems.
Eco-agorism is radical, (from the Latin “radix” for root,) in three complementary senses. Firstly, it aims to uproot the single greatest source of societal injustice and ecosystemic destruction by removing the veil of legitimacy surrounding the coercive monopoly state. Secondly, and in a more positive sense, it aims to build voluntary and sustainable alternatives, thereby strengthening and growing the root system of a peaceful free market society in harmony with nature. Finally, eco-agorism strongly encourages the organic growing and counter-economic exchange of tasty root vegetables.
